Depression is part of the body’s guidance system to alert you. The most emotional part of the body is located in the belly/sacral area, this is where the reproductive organs are and where the most energy associated with emotions exist in the body.
Past traumas and abuses that have occurred in your life such as; sexual abuse, emotional abuse, volatile situations, neglect, rape, alcoholic/drug dependent families, accidents/injuries/ life threatening situations, these are often significant markers in your life that may later cause the onset of depression.
Working through your own body’s energy field for depression, helps you understand the emotions involved that have created the compression of emotions. I use a technique that helps my clients access their subconscious mind to help them recognize the individual life experiences that contribute to their depression. Multiple memories surface without the emotional impact, the body brings to recognition those memories that need to be consciously processed. The overall umbrella of the work is working with the energy of the body which is the driver to resolving the conflict at the mental –emotional level.
Diet and exercise is also found to make a great improvement with resolving depression. Research shows that 80% of serotonin is located in the belly, hence where depression is.
A diagnosis of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), is severe, people with this take medication daily. The are things you can do for yourself which can help soothe anxiety, and calm the nervous system over time through a lot of relation techniques. Although working straight through your energy field I feel, is the fastest way to deliberately release the stress accumulation. It’s all concentrated, stuck energy.
Anxiety can be a debilitating, stressful, issue to deal with especially when you are having heart palpitations, or you think you are having a heart attack. Panic attacks as well can cause discomfort, and add to the underlying anxiety that exists in the body. It is a frightening realization that the body can produce these strong sensations when your body is letting you know that there is a problem. Often, anxiety is the body reacting to an overwhelming amount of stress that has been stored physically, generally stored in the heart center.
Energetically this area of the heart center is where relationships are held, giving love out and taking it in, as well as self-love. For some people they may think that this may have nothing to do with their anxiety. But, the heart center has its own energy field. One that is the most intelligent of the body and the one that stores the entire blueprint of everything that happens to the body even at the fetus stages.
From an energetic point of view, anxiety is a combination of the workings of what is expected and expectations that you may put on yourself. This can cause an excess of stress centered in the chest, which in turn, can raise blood pressure, or can lead to panic attacks or heart palpitations. Working through the energy filed to help guide the body to release the underlying stress that causes the anxiety is simply what is done.
Here is an example of a client’s reaction to one treatment that produced amazing results. She explains:
“Anxiety for me is like a keyboard key that sticks, and when it sticks, it can stick for hours or up to 10 days all day everyday. This was severe, I was on medication for almost two years, this anxiety was strong enough to really effect me in so many ways, and frightening. Christina led me into a deep relaxation so my body could finally let go, I was so ready and believe that my openness to this work really helped me. In the deep relaxation, I started to feel these condensed balloon like shapes in my chest, go pop, pop, pop!! I felt instant release while in the relaxed state and when coming out of the treatment felt like I had released the accumulation of stress that had been there a very long time.”
Sexual abuse is one of the most traumatizing and damaging experiences to the body and mind. Often those who experience this abuse, cut themselves off from their body. The trauma of abuse commonly results in the body holding on to a ‘pain body’. The pain body is a protective layer in the field, used as a shield to protect physically and emotionally from further pain and wounding. Its normal and over time, can be healed if the client is willing. Abuse often affects a persons ability to express themselves freely and/or confidently. Sensation and expression of the body can be compromised.
Energy healing assists the body to move through blockages, that have created physical illness or reoccurring patterns that perpetuate fallen relationships or other disturbances in life. Energy in the body takes many forms characteristic of mental, emotional or physical manifestations of blockages. The mind for example, when separated from the body, may further exasperate a condition. Perpetual negative thinking and never being able to shut off the mind may take one further from the source of all pain- the body. The pattern is, to disassociate from the pain, all pain is in the body. A separation occurs mentally, but the bodies innate intelligence will consistently remind you emotionally that it needs your attention. Emotions emanate from the heart and the belly. Between those two remains your sense of self, your will and your power, it becomes compromised, without a sense of stable emotions, self realization may be weakened. The sense of self is affected by abuse, that includes self-expression. Cutting off the body and cutting away from the emotions, and feeling. Remarkably the intelligence of the bod will let you know, emotions need to be processed from traumatic experiences.
Some of the most effective ways to heal is through your body. Combined or complimented with therapy is a structured approach to wellness. Its about bringing the body and mind back into harmony. The task is training the mind to calm, and have a reasonable amount of willingness to allow your own healing ability to take place. Working with the energy of your body helps facilitate this process because working with ‘energy’ employs the mental, physical and emotional bodies working together simultaneously.
Mental Health &Wellness
The Canadian Association for Mental Health (CAMH) explains there are different kinds of mental disorders. Each disorder is characterized by different sets of symptoms that affect how we think, feel and behave. Symptoms may include depressed moods, extreme mood swings, disturbances in thought or perception, obsessions or fears, and/or other overwhelming feelings of anxiety.
Mental Illness is characterized by having one or more of the following; Depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia, eating disorder and personality disorders. All common disorders, diagnosed by psychiatrists or psychologists.
A common denominator of having any mental illness is trauma, and inherited mental health issues. A birth or fetal trauma, or your parents emotional trauma. This would include; sexual, physical or emotional abuse from childhood on, volatile environments, rape, abduction, neglect, witnessing death, sudden death, birth trauma or hospitalization as an infant.
In looking at Mental Illness from a ‘Energy’ perspective I understand it to be a body in ‘crisis’. Through trauma and the result of past trauma, the body and the mind can become separated or disconnected. The spirit is intact but operating at a loss of vitality or becomes mis-aligned. When the body becomes disconnected from the mind, the body can manifest illness. What the body can no longer hold on to or process, the result can be physical illness and/or mental illness.
I have worked with many individuals who suffer mental health issues and addiction, their experiences are quite amazing. Their body readily accepts the work through their energy body. Each individual is different but each finds a ‘way’ through their own energy field to meet their self in a way, they have never experienced before.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
“Post Traumatic Stress Disorder(PTSD) is defined as an anxiety disorder characterized by reliving a psychologically traumatic situation, long after any physical danger involved has passed, through flashbacks and nightmares.”- CAMH
Post trauma affects more than just the psyche, its lives in the body. We experience our lives daily through energy. That being said, it means, simultaneously we are affected by our surroundings, by the way we think, feel, hear and smell, in any event, a memory is stored in our body. It goes the same with any traumatic event. Current scientific research views PTSD as a psychological issue not considering the body. Its naive to think that we only experience our lives through our mind- More recent studies have now concluded that PTSD lives as much in the body as it does in the mind!! 2016
Trauma affects the entire body, both physiologically, psychologically, mentally, emotionally and energetically.I believe PTSD to be symptoms manifested from the unresolved emotions revolving around past or current traumas and abuses. Moving forward without the help needed can become a mental health issue manifesting; acute anxiety, nervousness, depression, paranoia, or in some cases obsessive compulsive disorder.
Some clients who suffer PTSD have suffered some abuse in the past or a life-threatening experience. What we are dealing with more commonly, is work-related, first-responder PTSD, workers on the front-line. Understandably with witnessing a traumatic real life event that involves death, abuse, unlikely visual circumstances includes the energy that goes along with what that person sees. It is by no means a sole issue that exists only in the mind. The body takes on the energy of every event and experience you go through in your life, whether it is good or adverse.
Ekhart Tolle, an author and spiritual teacher, talks about the emotional pain body, where old emotions are living inside you, he describes; “It is an accumulation of painful life experiences that was not fully faced and accepted in the moment it arose. It leaves behind an energy form of emotional pain. It comes together with other energy forms from other instances, and so after some years you have a “painbody,” an energy entity consisting of old emotion.” I relate to the pain body in my work in a similar way.
The symptoms of PTSD such as anxiety, underlying stress in the body, insomnia, night terrors, fear and fear of vulnerability to name a few, can persist for long periods. When anyone experiences trauma, there is going to be a post-effect on the body and mind. During any moment of high stress or traumatic experience, the body goes into a Sympathic Nervous System (SNS) stress response- to ‘fight or to flight’. The opposite of this nervous system response is the Parasympathic (PNS), that’s the ‘rest and digest’. The problem with PTSD is the body has a hard time staying in the PNS state, its constantly awaken by the SNS response.
In an energy healing session, the client is brought down to a deep relaxed state that reaches the PNS, the relaxed state goes into the Theta brain waves and accesses the subconscious mind/body where all memories of the entire body is stored. We have to remember that the body does heal and the power of this healing happens through the human energy field. In the theta state where the subconscious mind is reached, the body’s memory system recognizes the triggers that create the resulting factors that cause the PTSD. Because the client is in the deepened state, the emotional impact is not felt but recognized by the brain. After the session is complete, the body and mind continue to process over time. The emotions that arise in each individual then must be processed at a conscious level. The all encapsulating result is healing through the mental/emotional/physical and energetic fields of the body- This is how we experience life, why would we not utilize what we are made of to heal?
In addition, Rapid Eye Movement (REM). Although REM is associated with dreaming stage of sleep, researchers noticed that when we dream, our eyes move back and forth rapidly, naming this phase REM. During the energy healing session, when I see the client going into REM I understand that, the body is processing. Talking about the experiences, can be helpful but allowing your energy field to process them at an unconscious level I think has a much greater ability to heal itself. The body know how to heal. Energy work, provides a channel for the body to process what the mind cannot consciously.
